This is why I gave this Makita planner 4 rather than 5 stars. I've already given one of my other two power planers away. I used it to clean up salvaged/reclaimed wood. It's closer to the street than the house! It is sturdy and the blade are double sided and sharp.

I've only used this a handful of times and have been pleased. If you only used a crude hand plane you can use this. You can take as little or lot off as you desire. I'm building a farm table out of reclaimed lumber. Makes a mess even with the bag on but whatever

I do like the portability and ease of use. It's not convenient, but it did contain about 98% of the mess. Just quiet and smooth and leaves a glassy finish. Overall the feel of the tool was pretty good. With it over a standard run through planer.

I've only used this a handful of times and have been pleased. We had to shave some doors down a small bit. At this point the top surfaces of the joists was very uneven. The left/right chip ejector is much better than Makita's. I can't get too close to the floor with it.

Power is adequate for fresh cut oak rough planks. So other people wouldn't have too much trouble handling it. I rigged up a table based on videos that I watched online. You do not have to be an NFL linebacker to use this. Without this planer, I had no idea how to solve the problem.
