It's a beast. If you need to rough in a large slab of wood (or a bench top) this is the thing to have. It makes very short work of any task that would normally be filled by both the fore plane and a jointer plane. It's large but its not so unwieldy that it is difficult to use. About the only negative is just the sheer amount of cuttings it can generate which isn't a fault with the planer, just proof of how much time its saving you. Make sure you use it with dust collection and have a set of spare blades.

The Beast.

I received my Triton planner today. I started planing a live edge walnut slab for a conference table. After using for about an hour. I have to say tthis baby is a beast. I build a lot live edge tables and I don’t know a faster more powerful hand held planer. But like I said I only used it for about an hour and completed what would of took 2 or more hours with a 3 1/4 inch planer. My live edge life just got easier and faster.

Good tool, but lefties be careful

I just received my planner and took it out for a test spin. When I took it out of the box I thought, Holly Cow this thing is big! But when in use it is being held up by the board you are planning so it really is fine. You do not have to be an NFL linebacker to use this. The bottom line, it works. I ran it over a rough sawn piece of cedar and got a very smooth surface. Some notes: This is a big tool and produces a lot of shavings. You will need a vacuum unless you are outdoors. You probably are not going to edge plane a ¾ inch board.
If you are left handed (and I am) starting the planner is not so easy. While holding the trigger with your left hand you must cross your right hand over and stick your index finger under your left hand to push the release button, all the while holding onto the tool. If you are a lefty you will be familiar with all this. This is why I gave this planner 4 rather than 5 stars.

A full 7 inches makes the job go faster

Bought this to plan the hump out of a live edge counter top. Never used a power hand planner before. Was a little imtimidated , but within 5 minutes felt like Had been doing it for years. Made several passes on the high spot. Was powerful and simple to use. Worked great. This planner is big and powerful. Love it so far. Time will tell

Fast, level, smooth, wide cuts.

I was a little cautious spending this much money on a power planer but after using it for the first time a few days ago to clean up some very rough cut, crooked, twisted, and warped chain sawn lumber, I can say that it works great! Due to the longer base and wider cutting channel, it levels out valleys, high spots, and irregularities extremely quickly and accurately. I use to do this with a 3.5 inch power planer but this unit works considerably better(faster) and leaves a smoother finish (probably due to the powerful motor and 3 blade design) on wide surfaces that are too large for a thickness planer.
