I've only used this a handful of times and have been pleased. I reset the clamping plate using the alignment jig. It was way to uneven to install composite decking. The instruction can be improved with more picture. I've been ruined by the Makita Planer!

The Makita FBA_2012NB Benchtop Planer B000051ZOO was definitely our number one Makita Planers. Having said that, there were a handful of other very high quality Makita Planers worth showcasing here that only just fell short.

I would recommend this to any one looking for a good planer. Takes a while to get the scooping stroke down. Best of all, with the bag on it leave almost no dust at all. The carry case is sturdy and an extra blade is included. For working with soft woods, this is a decent planer.

I do like the portability and ease of use. Also the damn safety buttons are a total deal breaker. 30 minutes of planing is around 30 gallons of chips. I couldn't believe how perfect this Makita was for the job. Makes a mess even with the bag on but whatever

Note that it does take a bit of finesse to get it right. I use it outside as there is a huge outflow of chips. At this point the top surfaces of the joists was very uneven. I wish the did include a collection bag, that's one big con. With it over a standard run through planer.

The machine has a V groove on the bottom for doing chamfers. The power is good for full cuts in soft woods. I haven't had any issues thus far with the tool. It's closer to the street than the house! This planer is a lot better than I expected for the money

The cloth dust/chip collection bag works well. I use it outside as there is a huge outflow of chips. 30 minutes of planing is around 30 gallons of chips. 305 inch when cutting with 1/32 inch setting. I can't imagine how long the sander would have taken.

It is tackled some of the toughest jobs with these. It's a nice tool to have around the house for small project. Replacement blades were not for the 312 as implied. Came with 2 sets of double sided blades and adjustable guide. Without this planer, I had no idea how to solve the problem.
