Top 10 Best Dual Action Sanders

What Real People Are Saying About The Goplus SU-1226-110V-TE

This polisher is way ahead of its class and I mean that.

I ordered this polisher and it's the best polisher I have and I have several, this polisher is powerful, and made solid I'm a detailer and I won't pay high prices for a name. I will put it up against any more expensive DA on the market because technique trumps product I want another one I like it that much.

First thoughts.

Do a little research before purchasing a long throw polisher. I watched some YouTube videos and ended up finding this one... first off real quick. Hyet no longer makes them, they’re stamped “Ironman” on the side. When I pulled it out of the box, I immediately trimmed the rubber shroud so it wouldn’t rub on the pad, and I changed the grease in the head, and no surprise, it was cheap Chinese, almost gritty grease. This made a HUGE difference in noise and feel. And between that and trimming the shroud. Heat as well. I also purchased a chemical guys torq 22d backing pad (5 inch) to replace the one that came with it. Some notes about the polisher. I like that it has a switch so you don’t have to constantly play with the speed setting to shut it off; however, the switch is kind of weird. It’s almost as if the inner switch stays locked up (when the lock is pressed) but the plastic part that you push on falls down and is floppy... it doesn’t change how it operates and it works fine, but from a build quality standpoint, just feels weird. But for the price. I cannot complain. It does what it’s supposed to. I’d recommend a microfiber cutting pad, a set of foam pads, and 3m compound. But the polisher does well.

Great product, but it gets HOT
  • Tracy - August 24, 2018

What I like; It has tons of power and doesn't bog down easily. Even when working on gelcoat doing heavy correction, it runs great.

What I don't like; It gets really hot and shredded one of my LC Force White pads. I think it has to do with the shroud. 1 - it rubs on the backing plate. 2 - It traps heat. As such, I pulled the shroud off. It's just soft rubber and came right off. This seems to let air flow better under the head and run a bit cooler. It would also help to take breaks and swap out pads often.

Overall, still a great product at a great price. I'm sure that other machines get hot too, and either taking breaks or swapping gear out would be advisable, regardless of the machine you purchase.

amazing and great price

I have a Saab 9-3 I am restoring to put it back in great shape after nearly 15 years of use and for the last six years I neglected the paint so it was full of swirl marks, and marred paint left behind by people who park via the braille method.

The paint was very cloudy, dull, and lots of light scratches and swirl marks, with a few holograms presumably put there by the dealer during prep.

I am a newbie with dual action buffers. my previous experience in the 80s and early '90s was with rotary buffers. For most people the progression is dual action to rotary. I watched a few howtos before receiving the buffer and I got the skill down within a couple of minutes of use. I wanted a long-throw buffer and when I saw video reviews with this buffer being used in pro shops and the price I jumped at it. If it is good enough for reputable detailer it will be good enough for this job.

When I unboxed it (more on packaging later) I was pleased to find it came with spare brushes. Construction is very good by any standard, not just a Chinese tool standard, and I expect it to stand up to far more use than I will put it through. The buffer is lightweight, well balanced, and while it does vibrate a bit at the lowest speed, it is more balanced and very smooth in the second and higher speed settings. since I will be using the lowest speed only for spreading product, that is a non issue for me.

The controls are a little awkward. The trigger lock is intentionally difficult to reach. When using the buffer it is very easy to accidentally press the speed down button, causing me to bring the machine to a stop twice, so awareness of hand placement is important.

The motor has plenty of power; I could not make the buffer stall even when putting enough pressure that I would start to worry about marring the paint. It also seems to be false rotation because even when under high pressure it continued to rotate and throw. This has its pros and cons but I would prefer forced rotation given a choice so that was a nice surprise. As I knew this would run hot and also that the shroud will not work with smaller backing plates, I immediately pulled the shroud off. The buffer does run hot as others have reported but I used it for a couple hours today at about 30% duty cycle and it showed no sign of trouble other than being warm.

I used it with Chemical Guys hex pads and Griot's Garage buffing complete and polish complete compounds and was able to bring the paint to a high Lustre and mostly eliminate swirl marks with 5-10 minutes of work per panel, including wipe, wash, and wipe time. I am going to put more time into buffing when I ceramic coat the car.

Update:

While this DA buffer isn't advertised as forced rotation, I purposely put too much pressure on it on a fender I'll eventually replace on our Saab, and the head did not stall, nor did it mar or otherwise damage the paint even though I overheated the pad; I had finished the initial cutting process so I don't need the aggressive cutting pad any more and was curious as to whether I could make it stall. I'm sure if I threw all my weight into it, it would stall or burn the paint but no reasonable amount of pressure will cause it to stall. The buffer has almost 3 hours of run time on it now and did a great job making paint I thought was hopeless look great again, and there is plenty of clear coat left. I've also used the buffing pad that came with the unit on our kitchen stove top with some cooktop polish and it did a great job of removing water stains from our electric stove.

(Another update: watching it more closely, I can see it is not forced rotation.)

The 21mm throw is very aggressive; the clearcoat on the roof of the car was so oxidized it clogged the pad within a minute so I decided to do a few quick passes with water and extra compound to try to keep the pad lubricated and going, and even then I had to wash the pad twice before I got all the oxidation off.

Overall it made quick work of the swirl marks and holograms in the paint, and the car is almost ready for the final polish and ceramic coat steps.

Packaging: I had to order this twice.

The first time I received tracking a notification that it shipped with the buffing pads. When the pads arrived, I literally LOL when I saw the huge long box that was used. Come to find out the buffer was shipped in the same box. That explains the huge box, and the box was "sealed* closed with a single strip of clear packing tape. Not good, tightly-gripping craft tape, but cheap packing tape you might buy at a CVS or Walgreens. Obviously what happened was the box bounced around at USPS and the cheap tape didn't hold the box closed and the buffer tumbled out.

Today my second buffer order (Amazon issued a credit and I applied it toward the replacement for the one I was supposed to get) came, loosely taped with a single strip of the same cheap clear tape, so be aware and order well ahead of time so your weekend project plans aren't trashed. I'm sure that after enough claims are filed Amazon will force the seller to fix their lazy packing problems. =(

Good customer service

The machine is nice, balanced, and when it worked it was great. I moved onto the second panel and turned the machine on and sparks flew, the machine died, and it no longer works. The total run time was 30 minutes. I would not recommend buying this product.
Currently, the seller is working on replacing the machine. I will update once this issue is resolved.
A replacement polisher is being sent. So, I changed the rating to reflect the resolving of this issue.
